Liverpool vs Manchester City, Community Shield Final Live Streaming: The first trophy of the English season is up for grabs when Manchester City and Liverpool meet in the Community Shield, the annual match between the Premier League champions and the FA Cup winners.
It’s a chance for players to get some more preseason minutes in their legs in a high-level match and for one of the teams to get a psychological edge heading into the start of the Premier League next week, with defending champion City and Liverpool the two title favorites.
They should both be starting their big summer signings in attack, too, in Erling Haaland (City) and Darwin Nunez (Liverpool). City is without center back Aymeric Laporte as he recovers from knee surgery and Liverpool will be missing forward Diogo Jota and goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who have both been out injured.
The change of venue to the King Power Stadium
This will be the first time the Community Shield will be held at the King Power Stadium in the history of the event. The last venue to host the curtain-raiser other than Wembley was Villa Park back in 2012, where Manchester City beat Chelsea 3-2 for the shield.
The reason for the change is because Wembley is playing host to some of the games for the Women’s EURO 2022 tournament currently taking place in England. The finals this weekend Sunday, in fact, will have England versus Germany at Wembley; it promises to be a humdinger!
Leicester City Will Not Be Defending Their Shield
Last year we saw Manchester City narrowly lose the shield to Leicester City 1-0, helping them achieve the feet for only the second time in the club’s history, after making it to three different Community Shield matchups.
This now inevitably leaves us with a new winner this year 2022. But the question stands: will it be the 15-time winners, Liverpool? Or will it be the six-time winners, Manchester City?
In the last meeting between the pair of English powerhouses back in 2019, led by the same two men, Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola, the latter took the Shield back to the Etihad after a penalty shootout.
Before getting to the new players that will be taking the pitch, how have the two clubs been getting along in their respective pre-season preparations?
After winning both the League and FA Cup, Liverpool will be looking to pick up an early piece of Silverware as they look to push again for glory on all four fronts. The Reds came very close last season to picking up a historic quadruple only to fall at the final hurdle in the Premier League and a disappointing defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
Despite this, Jurgen Klopp has been his typical self in pre-season admitting that it only took him a day to get over missing out on the quadruple. In transfer news, Liverpool waved goodbye to Sadio Mane who moved to German giants Bayern Munich. However Liverpool moved quickly to replace the Senegalese superstar with the big money capture of Darwin Nunez, Liverpool fans will be hoping that the 23-year-old Uruguayan striker can hit the ground running on Merseyside.
